Dear All
Many of you might have heard of the Belgaum-born and Karachi-educated journalist Neville Anthony Mascarenhas. He is largely remembered for his definitive account of the 1971 Bangladesh War of Liberation, 'The rape of Bangla Desh' (1971). However, it is the second book about Bangladesh: 'Bangladesh: A Legacy of Blood' (1986) which has been garnering attention in post-revolutionary Bangladesh at the moment. This account of how the founders of Bangladesh were killed as a result of the fratricidal disintegration of the Liberation Movement was banned by the now-overthrown authoritarian Awami League government of Sheikh Hasina. The student leaders who are now in control in Dhaka have been looking at Mascarenhas' book as a cautionary tale, and certainly, if you want an account of a revolution turned bad, it makes compelling reading.
