The Vanxem, Loutulim Chapel

The Milagres Chapel as it is commonly known in Vanxem at Loutolim village (about 10 Kms from Margao) in Salcete, covers a population that is peppered with Araujos, Mascarenhas’ and Monteiros.

This includes my mother’s Araujo ancestral house.

Someone has sent me a 26 page booklet of 1947, to celebrate the years of the Chapel from 1677 to 1947.

There is no one in Vanxem or its Diaspora who can translate this as they have all become English speakers. If anyone is up to translating the tract into English, his or her laborious task will earn my deep gratitude and that of all Vanxem Catholic residents.

The pages are fairly small with a 22 line average.

It’s unbelievable that no one in Vanxem can translate this document for posterity.
Perhaps you should reach out to the students of the Portuguese department at Goa Univ? Or the faculty?

I will be only too happy to have Dr de Figueiredo put his translation on this site, if he wishes. This line in the first para sounds promising;

Let us see what these various interesting aspects the author Padre Francisco de Aráujo is referring to.
