Professor Sanjay Subrahmanyam was the guest of the sixth edition of the Lisbon Lectures in the Humanities (LLH), which took place on March 13, 2024, at Amphitheater I of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon, under the theme "Empire, Philology and Botany: Eighteenth-Century Interactions in South and Southeast Asia".
Doctor in Economic History from the Delhi School of Economics, Sanjay Subrahmanyam is responsible for the Irving & Jean Stone Chair in Social Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, having until recently held the Chair Histoire Globale de la Première Modernité, at the Collège de France, in Paris. During his long career, he articulately explored various domains of knowledge, such as history, economics, politics and culture, a perspective that is reflected in his many published works.
