50th anniversary of the Ugandan Asian Expulsion: Exhibition and Panel at Arundells, Salisbury - 1 September 2022 

 

Dear all

 

Some of you may be aware that 4 August 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the announcement in 1972 by then President Idi Amin of the expulsion of the Asians from Uganda. 

 

The Trustees of Arundells, Edward Heath's home in Salisbury, have kindly arranged an exhibition to mark the event as the expulsion happened while Edward Heath was Prime Minister. They have also organised a panel discussion and reception on Thursday 1 September. It will discuss aspects of the expulsion of the community, their arrival in the U.K. and their role in British society today. 

 

Nimisha Madhvani, the newly appointed Ugandan High Commissioner to the U.K. will be among the panelists. I will be chairing the panel.
