Dear friends:

Greetings.

I am looking for literary (stories, novels, poems, essays) work on Plants in Konkani translated into English. The works could have plants as the protagonist/story around a plant, tree, grass/ and so on

Could you please provide any references to works that you are aware of?

Looking forward.

Best,
Susan

Hello Susan,

There are stories in Konkani language where you will come across tree references.
You can refer to books by Rajendra Kerkar as he is an expert on local plants and trees.
Here is my article on his latest book on the sacred trees of Goa.

You can also check my blog where I write about one local tree every month

I hope this helps.

Regards,

You're looking out for fiction alone?
Which script in Konkani? FN

Bhai (Damodar Mauzo)-- or someone else -- once posted a tree story on Goa Writers. I checked but couldn't find it. It had someting to do with a young boy stealing mangoes(?). I was very interested in it for inclusion in my now defunct Goan trees project.
It's a lovely story, in line with my concept of relationships involving trees -- Goan ones -- as opposed to more informational, less personal, ones. Bina wrote a good one for me (non fiction), in English. I think I re-posted that recently on GW. Sheela has also written beautifully in this area.
Salil is interested in trees. But he has disappeared. Only Bhai's story is in Konkani, however.

Dear FN:

Yes. Only literary pieces. Anything in Konkani but the bibliography should be in English.

Best,
Susan

Dear Jeanne:

Thanks for writing. I am looking for Konkani pieces only - Literary ones. I have found a few from friends who have replied but I am still looking for them.

Best wishes,
Susan
