Goa’s Chief Minster (CM) suggested in his oversight and exuberance, the purging of 451 years of Goa’s history. Such lapses can happen to any of us, especially when caught in political jingoism.

Yet it is ironical that this speech in Goa is at precisely the same time the boss of his party, Prime Minister Narender Modi was telling a joint session of Congress in Washington, DC that India is a democracy and an all-inclusive society.

What is the Konkani proverb for such situations?

Regards, GL

Re: Expunging Goa’s 451-year History

Attached is an article on "Expunging Goa’s 451-year History" as recently suggested by Goa's Chief Minister.  This and similar claims made by others from time to time, emphasis the need for us, especially in the diaspora, to know our history.

Hope this essay provides the readers with a framework of their historical journey.  Doing the homework will prepare one for Shashi Tharoor’s words of wisdom: “If you do not know where you have been, how do you know where you seek to go? History belongs in the past, but understanding it is the duty of the present.”

Please forward the article to your relatives and friends.

Insights into Colonial Goa would be an excellent and memorable Holiday gift.  Thank You!
