This is a book like you've not read before. It's not about Zanzibar per se, it is about Goans, how they lived more than a 100 years ago, their homes, their hopes, the racism they faced, the racism they inflicted, were they complicit in the slave trade, did they think of themselves as Indian, did they push back against empire. Did caste rivalries play out, did speaking Portuguese matter.

I promise you, you will enjoy this book which reads like a novel.
