Hey,

We've run into an issue where the GoCD server backups job when triggered via the UI, doesn't seem to complete. GoCD server version (19.2.x).

Multiple folders are created within the 'serverBackups' folder. There seems to be an error being thrown to do with sending a confirmation email. Once the error is thrown, the process seems to begin all over again.

We do not have an email configured for our GoCD instance, is this required to be able to trigger backups via the UI?

Would a better approach be if we used the API instead?

Regards,
JP

Could you clarify what you mean? Do you see errors, if yes, where?

Multiple folders are created within the 'serverBackups' folder.

There is one (timestamped) folder created per backup, by design.

Again, where do you see the error, what is the specific error you see.

I don't believe the API would really solve your issue. The backup page and API use the same underlying code.

Hi there,

I've also struck an issue with a backup triggered via the UI stuck 'in progress'.

Unfortunately the server is a very old version (15.1.0 running on RedHat) and isn't a candidate for an update just yet. The annoying thing is that the UI redirects to the message after a few seconds.

The backup folder was created (/var/lib/go-server/artifacts/serverBackups/xxxx) and files created as expected, but then things just stopped. Have restarted service, also rebooted server, also trashed the backup folder,.. it still thinks a backup is in progress. Server-wise, it's still working, agents connect, pipelines run, etc,.. just the annoying redirect.

Is there a way I can tell it to forget about this backup ?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Jim.....

P.S. Yes, I know the server needs updating to something more recent, but alas that's a whole different story.
