Update failed because the view is out-of-date. Try refreshing the page.

Hello,

After recently updating to 18.10.XX of GoCD, I've been having some trouble filtering the views due to the error message "Update failed because the view is out-of-date. Try refreshing the page." Refreshing doesn't seem to help much.

The error in the console is:

1. go/api/internal/pipeline_selection
2. Request Method:
   PUT
3. Status Code:
   412 Precondition Failed

I was wondering if there was something special required to be able to enable this functionality? 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's probably to do with your browser cache, or you're attempting to update personalization across multiple browser windows. Try reloading before updating the personalization.

My current GOCD version is 19.3. I have tried from multiple browsers, multiple users but the "update failed because view is out of date" error persists.

1. Request URL:
   https://gocd-url.com/go/api/internal/pipeline_selection

1. Request Method:
   PUT
2. Status Code:
   412 Precondition Failed

Moreover, the view deletion also fails with the same error. I could not get any logs from go-server.log.

Can you open an issue on https://github.com/gocd/gocd/issues/ with details and screenshots (if relevant) so that someone can take a look?

Hi we fixed this by doing the following:

We found from this: https://github.com/gocd/gocd/blob/75d13c1920cbf48d52db09bc8e11fe4157e8ae08/api/api-pipeline-selection-v1/src/main/java/com/thoughtworks/go/apiv1/pipelineselection/PipelineSelectionController.java#L134 that the etags were now needed to do updates.

Something within our infrastructure was stripping out the etags for requests (this was fine in earlier versions as they were not used).

Once we changed it we were able to update the views.

Not a GOCD problem per se but probably something with your set up
