Dear GLISPA Friends and Community,

Thank you! We appreciate your support and contributions to our COP28 Coordination Call last week. We are happy to see so much going on for and by islands. The enthusiasm shown by our membership to support each other and collaborate on the ground in the UAE for COP28 is truly inspiring.

For those of you who missed the call, the full recording can be accessed here:

Highlights included:
  1. A brilliant scene setting presentation on what's at stake for islands in the negotiations by Dr. Spencer Thomas. Tune in from 2:19 on the Youtube link to hear and see him speak.
  2. A recap of events and activities being undertaken by the Pacific Community (SPC) during COP28, as told by Coral Pasisi from 15:53 on the recording.
  3. Presentations by allies from the Global Mangrove Alliance (32:05), Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (50:42) and Island Innovation's "Island Voices @COP28" initiative, timestamped at 38:34.
N.B. Island Innovation is still seeking Blue Zone accreditation for two of the young Caribbean Climate Justice activists attending COP28 as part of their CLJLA Youth Delegation. If you or your organisation are able to assist with this request, please contact James Ellsmoor at ja...@islandinnovation.co.

Here are the links to ALL the presentations made on the call.

Please find below updated member info on island-related side events scheduled for COP28:

The above links remain open for continuous updating by our membership before and during COP28.

Finally, as requested by attendees on the call, we have set up a Whatsapp group, that GLISPA will moderate, to keep folks updated in real time on side events and other happenings on the ground that may be of interest to all in-person attendees.

The invitation link to join the Whatsapp group is here: https://chat.whatsapp.com/DOUWjB7aH56E55tHMEIDQY

Warmest Regards,

Hi Jabal,

It might be worth noting that the GEF has a SIDS-specific window of the SCCF (Special Climate Change Fund) which will provide $3 million (or more if we get more money) for each non-LDC* SIDS to support adaptation. This can be combined with resources for regular GEF projects.

Happy to answer any questions or connect people with my colleagues who can provide more information.

All the best,

Sarah

*LDC SIDS have a larger allocation available under the LDCF (Least Developed Countries Fund).
