Hello,

I'm wondering if there exists a list of Nationalities used by ULAN with accompanying AAT IDs. I have so far found the XML ULAN list of Nationalities with IDs that start with "9". I also found a posting online in my search that said that this listing would be deprecated in favor of a LOD version with AAT IDs. Can anyone point me in the direction of such a listing?

The intent is to create a look up list to link the demonyms from ULAN/AAT to Countries in Wikidata, specifically to note what nationalities are connected to artists/constituents.

thanks,
Nicholas Cipolla

Hi, Nicholas. You can get all AAT nationalities linked to ULAN records using this query:

select distinct ?nationality {?x skos:inScheme ulan:; foaf:focus/schema:nationality ?nationality}

Hi Gregg,

Just wanted to give you an update on the AAT Nationality request. When I (and my more technically minded colleague) made the call you suggested (was it a SPARQL query?), we only managed to get the correct labels after a lot of searching for the right one. I think in the end we used "prefLabel_en". In any case, we got about 2200 nationalities and labels, so I thank you for that.

One thing I noticed is that 7 of the nationalities had blank labels but an AAT term/URI. Upon further investigation, I noticed that those 7 had been deprecated and a replacement AAT term led me to the new entry. I'm attaching both the deprecated ones and the replacements to this email. Not sure if something needs to be updated in the database.

thanks again for your help and hope you are well,
Nicholas

As Gregg explained in another post, gvp:ObsoleteConcept is there for a purpose: to point to the new one.
See http://vocab.getty.edu/doc/#Obsolete_Subject
You can filter your query to type "a skos:Concept", which will omit the obsoletes.
