Colleagues-

I'm pleased to share my latest article in Journal of Environmental Psychology (co-authored with Alessandro Del Ponte, Enrijeta Shino, and Heather Barnes Truelove), which examines the role of personal experience with tropical disasters in Florida. In a survey of ~4000 voters, we find that experiencing damage from flooding/hurricanes increases concern about climate change and support for climate mitigation among Republicans. The study shows that political preferences can be overridden by first-hand experiences with events related to climate change. In other words, once you are personally affected by climate change, it's hard to deny the need to take it seriously.
