I am happy to share the opening of a research position at the University of Lausanne (Institute of Political Studies):
Postdoctoral position in international relations/political science (2 years) to work on a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation investigating the United Nations environmental agenda during the COVID-19 crisis.

The institute of Political Study (IEP) of the Faculty of Political Science (SSP) is looking for a:

Postdoctoral Researcher SNSF

At the crossroads of political science and international political sociology, this two-year project investigates United Nations practices aiming at maintaining political attention on the environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research is based on qualitative methods (interviews, observations, discourse analysis, practice tracing) applied to two case studies.

Job information

Expected starting date: 1st March 2022 (or shortly before/after)

Contract length: 2 years

Activity rate: 80%

Salary: the salary is determined by the regulations of the SNSF and the University of Lausanne

Office location: Lausanne-Dorigny, quartier Mouline, Géopolis

Your responsibilities

  • Literature review and development of the analytical framework with the research team (1 senior lecturer and 1 research assistant)
  • Preparation and conduct of a case study on the climate agenda of the UN Secretary-General (fieldwork in New York)
  • Data analysis, writing of scientific articles and presentation of research results at international conferences
  • Participation in the activities of the Center for International History and Political Studies of Globalization

Your qualifications

  • PhD in political science or international relations (or closed related discipline)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and research experience in the field of international organizations and/or global environmental governance
  • Strong skills in qualitative methods
  • Motivated to conduct field study in New York
  • Project management skills and ability to work independently and to take charge of administrative and research activities while respecting deadlines
  • Excellent English (spoken and written). A passive knowledge of French is recommended (the work environment is French-speaking)
