The Rising Pressures on Ocean Governance The ocean is under serious threat, with stressors that include overfishing, marine pollution, habitat destruction, and acidification. The rising pressure of these overlapping stressors and the need to consider cumulative impacts require a more holistic approach to ocean governance based on integrated management and the ecosystem approach.
