Hi everyone:

Here's our latest policy brief. Coincidently, there was also a piece on the Arctic and climate change on NPR this morning: https://www.npr.org/2022/04/11/1091980586/how-sanctions-against-russia-could-set-back-climate-change-work-in-the-arctic

You can see all of our policy briefs at https://www.iisd.org/projects/still-only-one-earth-lessons-50-years-un-sustainable-development-policy  Our next brief, which will be released at the end of next week will be on Indigenous Peoples and is timed with Mother Earth Day.

Best,

Pam

A Warming Arctic is a Warning for the World

A Warming Arctic is a Warning for the World

The Arctic is warming at a faster rate than other regions in the world and summer sea ice could disappear entirely as early as 2035. The decline in sea ice is causing changes in atmospheric circulation patterns—resulting in more extreme temperature fluctuations around the world—while increasing potential for more militarization, commercial shipping, tourism, and oil and gas drilling in one of the world’s most fragile ecosystems.

The latest Still Only One Earth policy brief posits that cooperation among Arctic states is needed more than ever to ensure the Arctic, its inhabitants, and their way of life survive.
