Dear colleagues,
This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). As many of us teach on these topics, I thought to share my book – The Untold Story of the World’s Leading Environmental Institution. UNEP at Fifty, MIT Press 2021. The World Economic Forum featured the book as one of the “must-read” books on environment - 7 ‘Champions for Nature’ tell us their must-read books. Reviews include Michael Franczak (2021). H-Diplo | ISSF Review Essay 58; Michael W. Manulak (2022). The Review of International Organizations Journal (17), pp. 223–226; Tim O’Riordan (2021) Review of The Untold Story of the World’s Leading Environmental Institution: UNEP at Fifty, Environment: Science and Policy for Sustainable Development, 63:6, 38-40, DOI: 10.1080/00139157.2021.1979869. I would be glad to speak (online) to your students about UNEP and the UN Environment Assembly, which will take place from February 28 to March 4.
Also, since May 2021, the
Center for Governance and Sustainability at UMass Boston has been convening online dialogues to celebrate UNEP@50. Please join us on Wednesday, Feb 2,
11:00 AM EST, for a discussion with Elizabeth Mrema and Ibrahim Thiaw, the Executive Secretaries of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. You can register
here.
Kind regards,
