Dear GEP-ers,

Johannes Urpelainen and I are looking for a postdoc to join our research team in Washington DC this summer, for a new project on the political economy of green growth. Please share with your networks as you see fit! Details below — for questions, please reach out to me directly!

All the best,
Jonas

The Initiative for Sustainable Energy Policy at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for a new project on the political economy of decarbonization during economic recessions. The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research and lead a team of research assistants to examine the conditions under which G20 economies respond to economic recessions by investing in green (emissions-reducing) stimulus and economic policy efforts. The project covers the recent Covid-19 pandemic and the 2008/2009 financial crisis, with additional research conducted on non-crises periods to understand cross-national approaches to green growth.

Responsibilities will include developing and coordinating research activities related to eight case studies conducted as part of this project, managing project data, analyzing project data, and publishing project-related manuscripts and results.

Candidates should demonstrate experience in conducting qualitative, cross-national social science research, be familiar with existing research on comparative political economy as it relates to climate policymaking, green industrial policy, and economic policymaking more broadly, and be willing to work collaboratively in a global research team that comprises researchers both in the United States and Europe. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to devote 60 percent of their time to working on the Green Recovery Project, with the remainder of their time devoted to independent research and publishing.

The position will initially run from July 1, 2022 for 12 months, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Salary is $57,000 per year.
