Geoengineering: in case of emergency, break glass lecture

This July our next EngTalk debates the critical topic of Geoengineering. Planet earth is facing an imminent climate emergency, a future of unprecedented life-changing events that need urgent solutions. In the wake of this crisis, what options do we have?

Geoengineering is the large-scale intervention of the earth’s climate systems with the aim to counteract climate change, could this solution reverse large-scale greenhouse-gas production?  If so, what are the proposed techniques and are they even safe to test?

Join the debate on 16 July when we welcome Rupert Read, academic, Green Party campaigner and spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion on the EngTalk stage Andy Parker, the project director of the Solar Radiation Management Governance Initiative (the SRMGI) and lead author of the Royal Society’s Geoengineering the climate report.

This EngTalk will see Rupert, Andy and the audience discuss all angles of a debate that affects both humanity and the future of our planet.

16 Jul 2021 / 1:30pm - 2:30pm

Andy’s background is in climate policy and he began working on SRM by mistake in 2008 when he led the production of the Royal Society’s Geoengineering the Climate report.

He moved into academia to research SRM governance at the Harvard Kennedy School and the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, Potsdam.
