Solar Radiation Modification Youth Watch is a new initiative developed by participants on C2G’s Youth Voices for Emerging Climate Governance project, following a year of immersive learning about the governance of climate-altering technologies known as solar radiation modification (SRM). Driven by concern that more young people need to become aware of, and engage in governance discussions around SRM, these young pioneers from across the world are launching a new platform to raise awareness, mobilize, and amplify youth perspectives in emerging international discussions around SRM.
The initiative will officially launch at Climate Week-NYC on September 17, 2023, from 9:30-12:30 EDT. See further details below including how to register to join the event virtually or in person.

Background:
With proposed climate-altering technologies known as solar radiation modification (SRM) being increasingly addressed in national and international fora, it is now both urgent and important that young people are informed, empowered, and engaging in emerging international discussions about its governance.

Awareness among young people about SRM and its implications is very low, and to address this, SRM Youth Watch has been created to both advance young people’s understanding and their engagement in emerging international governance discussions.

The launch of Solar Radiation Modification Youth Watch (SRM YW) will bring together young people from across the world to discuss the need for strengthening governance around SRM and introduce the new SRM YW platform. The event will feature presentations and a roundtable discussion where young people will share their views on SRM and the need for its governance, the challenges faced, and how the new platform could help.

Join Clara Botto, Aasimal Kamal Mowni, Sarah Kwerit and friends for the beginning of a new frontier in youth climate action taking place at Climate Week – NYC, 17 September 2023 at 09:30-12:30 EDT.
