The UN Human Rights Council and the prosecution's case against SRM
Plan A+
This week the UN Human Rights Council heard the findings of a new report prepared by it’s advisory committee. Far from being an impartial review of the issue, it reads more like the case for the prosecution in the trial against Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR…

JOB OPPORTUNITY

Postdoc I at University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) | United States, Colorado, Boulder | Deadline: 14 August 2023

“Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role:
-The employee will work with the team on the Earth Radiation Budget (ERB) Initiative Project at NCAR. The work includes performing and analyzing model experiments with two aerosol models within the Community Earth System Model (CESM) Version 2, the CARMA sectional aerosol model, and the existing modal aerosol model. The work further includes contributions to the continued development and evaluation of the aerosol model with observations. The employee set up, and perform stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) experiments and develop possible adjustments and sensitivity simulations for the CARMA model. The employee will further perform future simulations with stratospheric aerosol injections. The employee will also conduct independent research and write papers on the results.
-The employee will set up and perform stratospheric aerosol injection simulations in CESM2/WACCM with the sectional aerosol model CARMA using different injection materials (e.g., sulfur vs sulfuric acid). The employee will participate in model development that requires changing and improving the CARMA and atmospheric model code and will evaluate it to improveperformance compared to observations. The employee will participate in weekly team meetings.
-The employee will perform independent research on developed and performed experiments, write scientific papers, and present them at meetings focusing on comparisons between sectional and modal aerosol model descriptions for experiments in past, present, and future conditions with and without stratospheric aerosol injections. The employee will contribute to writing computer time proposals required from model simulations.
-Identify the best setup for model simulations to be best suited for the science question and consider computational efficiency before performing simulations.
-Identify model improvement needs, and experimental design to apply SAI.
-Identify reasons for differences between using different aerosol schemes for SAI.”
