Hello everyone,
I’m currently working on research related to multifunctional geodesic domes. My focus is on exploring how these structures can be adapted for multiple uses—such as sustainable housing, research facilities, or modular spaces—while maintaining efficiency and structural integrity.
I would greatly appreciate:
Guidance or direction from those with experience in geodesic design, engineering, or applications.
Sources, references, or research papers that could deepen my understanding of multifunctional dome structures.
Practical insights from anyone who has worked on similar projects or knows of case studies where geodesic domes were applied in innovative ways.
My goal is to build a strong foundation for my research and connect with people who can help me refine my approach. Any suggestions, resources, or even critical feedback will be very valuable.
Thank you in advance for your support—I’m looking forward to learning from this community!

Dear Rajput,
The nomenclature "Geodesic Domes" is a hangover from the early days of the field.
Today the field should be called tensegrity structures reflecting the source of their strength ie continuous tension enclosing discontinuous compression.
Rotogrities are an integral part of the field.
Do read Rene Motro's book  " Tensegrity  Structural Systems for Future" It can be downloaded at certain sites
Do read about Formain a language for generating new structures. For example see here https://www.mi.sanu.ac.rs/vismath/proceedings/rebielak.htmensegrity

Structural Systems for the Future

Regards

Ashok

Meparth,

I don't know what you would like the scope of your project to be,  but beyond geodesic domes and tensegrity structures, there is a very large industry of dome and shell structures.  Some are spherical and many are not.  They are used for everything from art museums to storage for road salt.   Here are a few examples I posted recently, but there are a lot more.

https://monolithicdome.com/
https://www.monolithic.com/dome

https://www.masonryarches.com/domeblock

There are also a lot of books illustrating imaginative uses of structures, like Paper Houses by Sheppard, Roger, which might give you more ideas.
