A video and time-lapse of the Geoship project, that is developing a production technology for Bioceramic Geodesic domes, can be found here:

I love the work and spirit behind geoship, but I feel they lack holistic forward visioning...

(please forgive me if this seems like I am shitting on their incredible progress and fantastic work here now)

This may be partly related to not living in a northern climate, or lacking being more realistic about merging the auspices of resilient dome form with Mike from arizona's earthship passivhaus off grid designs at the same time... how is this dome going to survive a tornado when it rests on the ground without a foundation holding to the ground?

how will this dome with windows on all sides survive solar gain

or how will these designs deal with heating with the eventual sudden and massive snow falls.. etc..

So many details I hope they realise they have neglected and as they evolve they find solutions to deal with a changing and more inhospitable planet earth..

How are they going to cool these in the California sun? when it's +45C for weeks on end 10 years or more, or even less from now?

great ideas, interesting materials approach, but still lacking in being realistic about the state of our evolving weather patterns, our evolving super/hyper volatile weather patterns...

great start but they left lots of details off the table.. and I wonder why.. it gives me pause as I wonder why..

Then again I'm looking from Quebec (it gets very cold and can still get very warm in the summer) with a desire to develop a passiv off grid enabling  energy never needing heat, always capable of cooling, always capable of changing our housing which will also even be open source... god willing! sort of like https://www.opensourceecology.org/ for making almost anything.

I usually only see Geoship updates in my LinkedIn feed LOL. Thanks for sharing Paul. Keep up the good work Bas!

Foundations are soil and location specific, we are developing a foundation system that can provide in all needs, e.g. it can simply rest on the earth, it can also have peers going into the ground on multiple locations of the circle, it can be build on a slab, with a basement etc. Our aim here is a modular system to build up to the specific needs of each condition.

how will this dome with windows on all sides survive solar gain
Window layout can be designed for each location specifically. We are working on a configurator app that will help you to calculate optimal window location, this configurator will slowly expand and become more comprehensive including sheet storage, what kind of windows and blinds (physical blinds/electrochromic glass), ventilation, heating and cooling, etc.

We are not neglecting these details, developing simply takes time. We are dedicated to tackling all these issues.

One of the qualities of the Bioceramic is that it reflects a part of the heat, additionally, there is a wide insulation cavity, that serves both hot and cold climates. For a little deeper dice, please have a read here: https://geoship.is/bioceramic-dome-advantages/

I have attached some images for your insight into our development process. Please keep in mind, we are just finishing our first full size prototype. We build this prototype to learn about the construction methodology, production process, the product and material design. The next prototype that we will be beginning to develop soon will have a lot more detail and a lot of more answers to all your questions.

Please feel free to ask anything her and I’l do my best to answer.

Also a little call for help. WE are currently fundraising for the next round of development of the construction technology. Please tell your friends and colleagues about our moonshot for affordable and sustainable architecture. This is hte link ot send them to: https://www.startengine.com/geoship

And you all, sing up for our e-mail newsletter at https://geoship.is

Best wishes,
Bas

Thanks for continuing to post here Bas. Did you happen to record the LinkedIn Live event the other day? I wanted to watch but got caught up.

Hi,
Yes we did record that livestream, we will release that video in the next week or so, I’ll post it here once its available.

In the mean time, here is the link to our Press page with access to our press release, images and previously made videos.
