Ecovillage activities in China

The project is committed to reflections on science, technology, economy and education, aiming to solve the gap of wealth derived practically and to develop low-cost eco-energy technology. It mainly experimentizes social and economic regionalization, explores circulative arcology and organic farming technology, and also builds consensus community. Solution and experiences can be provided during the project for negative force in human civilization.
We hope people can relearn to live independently and then think things out of themselves through these reflective practices and comprehensive social activities.
Many psychologies, such as previous complaints, compromise and resistance, and unsustainable institutional arrangement won’t be solved naturally, unless one has got a sense of independence.
We are the only non-governmental organization exploring this kind of lifestyle in mainland China.
Our value requires more people to comprehend. Our expenditure mainly comes from small donations raised online and campaign funds.
“Southern Life” is the first consensus community initiated by Another Land, joined by several families, namely a lifestyle for people owing the same concept.
The project has got financial support from a charitable fund in Fujian, which makes Guanhua Don, with a group of participators in the same camp, set up a consensus community together in hundreds of acres of farmland.
The short-term goal is that: people can stay and live here comfortably and solve problems on food and accommodation successfully. People regard here as their home and then develop their own interests and hobbies gradually.
Every important affair will be decided by members in the community. Members can contribute their knowledge and technical ability by sharing, in order to make a self-sufficient community.
Guanhua Don：
The pace of urbanization in China is speeding up. Urban population has grown by 2% on average. In 2011, the population in urban has been more than that in rural areas for the first time. In 2014, urban population will be above 7.5 million. Will consensus community be a way out when facing gap of wealth, environmental pollution, materialism and decaying countryside?
City and community can stay side-by-side. Nowadays, some agricultures and ecological parks, including travel places, have begun to connect with environmental and natural sustainability. So many people are trying this.
So in my opinion, many countries will become this state of being a community. Consensus community will be open to public, and there is no law to regulate what we should be and how we to do. It can connect closely with city, or cut off the contact with city. Also, many handcrafts can be made and exchanged. To make the community spontaneous, autonomous, voluntary is the most important part.
The growing state that people with common idea live and go forward together is the most significant. The last generation only survives, not lives in their lifetime, however, this generation finally has the choice. Someone pursues fame and money, and someone hopes that the world will be better.
Utopia is an imagination, while it will not be called utopian if it comes true. It is not just written on the paper, but made by hands. We will get to this goal.
We have started our exploration, practice and communication about consensus community since 2009.
The way we carry out our work is simple and for the public good. All of our activities are free and donation is our only source of finance to organize activities and make experiments. We live in the mountain and spend very little money, living a self-reliant life. We try our best to achieve a community life that everyone can join as long as he or she want to without barriers.
We started “Southern Life” consensus community experiment in Fu Zhou, China in October 2015 and glad to have such supporters from the nation. There are hundreds of people participated in the program in total and we have eight settlers now. we are now building our house by hand. The office of GEN China is also here and the architecture of the office is dome. We have long term volunteers here to observe, assist and record the construction of the community.
