CUMBERLAND, TO WIT.

 

A Calendar of the Prisoners in the Gaol and House of Correction, Carlisle, at the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace, to be holden at Carlisle aforesaid, on Tuesday, July 12, 1825.

 

In custody on their several former orders.

John WILSON, committed March 21st, 1825, by Benjamin JACKSON, Esq. charged with having stolen and taken away from Carleton, in the parish of Penrith, two wether sheep, the property of Isaac TOPPIN of Skirwith.

 

Jane ROBS, committed April 9th, 1825, by Thomas HARTLEY and Alexander SCOTT, Esqrs., convicted of refusing to pay a fine levied upon her for an offence against the excise laws.

 

Thomas NICHOLSON, convicted of petit larceny at the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace, holden April 12th, 1825, and sentenced to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for six months.

 

David RIDLEY, convicted of petit larceny, at the General Quarter Sessions, holden April 12th, 1825, and sentenced to be transported for seven years.

 

Peter GRUNDY, Susan M'LAUCHLAN, Lucy CURTIS, severally convicted at the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace, holden April 12th, 1825, and were ordered and adjudged to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for one year.

 

William EVANS, committed May 10th, 1825, by Rev. Edward FAWCETT and Humphrey SENHOUSE, Esq. for non-payment of two pounds and eighteen shillings, under an order of bastardy, to be imprisoned three months, unless, &c.

 

John JACKSON, committed May 12th, 1825, by Richard WATTS, Esq. for non-payment of seven pounds, eight shillings, under an order of bastardy, to be imprisoned three months, unless, &c.

 

James SHARPE, committed May 13th, 1825, by Richard WATTS, Esq. for non-payment of six pounds, six shillings, under an order of bastardy, to be imprisoned three months, unless, &c.

 

Sarah DRAPER, John HARDCASTLE, committed May 27, 1825, by John HODGSON, Esq. mayor, charged with having stolen from the person of James MORRISON four promissory notes of the value of eight pounds, his property. (See City Sessions.)

 

William CAMPBELL, committed May 28th, 1825, by the Rev. Walter FLETCHER, convicted of fraudulently obtaining one shilling from James DENNIS, of Orton.

 

Richard PURDOM, committed June 8th, 1825, by Thomas BLAMIRE, Esq. charged with having uttered five forged and counterfeit notes, well knowing the same to have been forged and counterfeit.

 

Robert MILLS, committed June 15th, 1825, by William Ponsonby JOHNSON, Esq. convicted of having in his possession one hare, and refusing to pay the penalty, to be imprisoned three months, unless, &c.

 

Hannah WELLS, committed June 20th, 1825, by John LITTLEDALE, Esq. charged with having burglariously entered the dwelling-house of Rebecca WOODVILE, in the parish of Moresby.

 

Thomas BURNET, committed June 25th, 1825, by the Rev. Richard MATTHEWS, convicted of vagrancy in the parish of Wigton, to be imprisoned one calendar month.

 

Thomas PEEL committed June 28th, 1825, by John HEYSHAM, Esq. for non-payment of five pounds, three shillings, under an order of bastardy, to be imprisoned three months, unless, &c.

 

Dorothy ROUTLEDGE, committed June 29th, 1825, by the Rev. Thomas RAMSHAY and William Ponsonby JOHNSON, Esq. convicted of having been delivered of a female bastard child, (being her second) which is yet living and chargeable to the parish of Farlam.

 

William LOGAN, committed July 4th, 1825, by William Ponsonby JOHNSON, Esq. convicted of having wilfully damaged two ash trees, the property of Sir J. R. G. GRAHAM, Bart. to be imprisoned six weeks.

 

William DAVIDSON, committed by the Rev. Thomas LOWRY, D. D. and John HEYSHAM, Esq. for non-payment of money, under an order of bastardy.

 

Henry SINCLAIR, committed June 2nd, 1825, by the Rev. Thomas LOWRY, D. D. and John HEYSHAM, Esq. charged with having gotten Mary RANKIN, of Castle Carrock with child, and refusing to indemnify the parish.
