A few days ago, Mr. C. MOSSOP of Boon Wood, to Miss Jenny MOSSOP of Pear Ling.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Clement MOSCROP of Gosforth and Jane MOSCROP of St. Bridget's married on 29 Jan 1778 at St. Bridget Beckermet.]

 

At Dalton, Mr. John HULL, to Miss GELDART.

[According to FamilySearch, John HOOL or HOOLL and Sarah GELDART married on 14 Feb 1778 at Dalton in Furness.]

 

At Carlisle, the 12th inst. Mr. John BELL, Callico Printer, to Miss GIBSON, of that city.

[According to FamilySearch, the bride's forename was Ann, and they married at St. Mary, Carlisle.]

 

The 14th inst. Mr. James ROBINSON of Stanwix, near Carlisle, to the engaging widow SCOTT, innkeeper in that city.

[According to FamilySearch, they married on 07 Feb 1778 at St. Mary, Carlisle; the bride's name was Mary SCOTT.]

 

Thursday, at Knaresburgh, Capt. IBBETSON, brother to Sir James IBBETSON, Bart. to Miss FLETCHER, daughter of Capt. FLETCHER, of the Abbey near that town, and niece to Sir Hugh PALLISER, Bart.

[According to FamilySearch, Carr IBBETSON and Rebecka FLETCHER married on 12 Feb 1778 at Knaresborough, Yorkshire.]

 

Last week, at Bewcastle, Mr. Andrew DODGSON, of Croft, to Miss HETHERINGTON, of Becks.

[According to FamilySearch, the bride's forename was Elizabeth; they married on 12 Feb 1778 at Bewcastle.]

 

A few days ago, at Workington, Capt. John FEARON, to Miss Sally THOMPSON of Stainburn-Hall.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, the groom was a mariner, the bride was Sarah THOMPSON, and they married on 25 Jan 1778 at Workington. According to the Marriage Bond, they were both aged 24.]

 

Same place, Capt. Christopher CRAGG, to Miss Sally BROUGH.

[According to The Parish Register Transcript, the groom was a mariner, the bride was Sarah BROUGH, and they married on 16 Feb 1778 at Workington. According to the Marriage Bond, he was aged 27 and she aged 28.]

 

A few days ago, at Dornock in Scotland, Mr. William GASS of Tordoff, to Miss Betty LOWTHER of Dornock.

[According to ScotlandsPeople, the bride's forename was Elizabeth; they married on 02 Feb 1778 at Dornock.]

 

A few days ago at Bromfield, Mr. Joseph SIMM of Allonby, to Miss Mary LONGRIGG, an agreeable young lady, with a fortune of 600 l.

 

DIED

 

Tuesday last, Mr. Joseph FRYEARS of this town, aged 80.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Joseph FREAR of Scotch Street was buried on 19 Feb 1778 at St. Nicholas, Whitehaven.]

 

Wednesday last in the same house, Mr. John KNAILE, aged 68, formerly a captain in the Virginia trade, and greatly respected as a sincere honest man.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, John KNAILE of Scotch Street was buried on 20 Feb 1778 at St. Nicholas, Whitehaven.]

 

At Upperby, near Carlisle, of that most excruciating pain, the stone, Mr. William HETHERINGTON, aged 72.

 

At Carlisle the 14th inst. in the prime of life, of a long and painful illness, Mrs. BECK, wife of Mr. Lancelot BECK, common carrier in that city.

 

Wednesday the 14th inst. at Wester-Milcrass, in the parish of Tullich, George SYMON, aged 109 years.

 

Tuesday last, at Workington, Mr. George KINLEY, in the 88th year of his age.

[According to FamilySearch, George KILNER (not KINLEY) was buried on 19 Feb 1778 at Workington.]

 

At Maryport, very suddenly, Mrs. HARRISON in the 79th year of her age.

 

Thursday last, at Winscales near Workington, Mrs. KEY of that place.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Mary KEY, wife of John, of Winscales, was buried on 22 Feb 1778 at Clifton.]

 

Last week, at Carlisle, Mrs. PEARS, greatly regretted.

I had to smile at the entry about Mr Simm marrying Miss Longrigg, an agreeable young lady. I wonder if it was her money that made her so agreeable!
