Hello there!!

My elementary buildings are looking for alternatives for Spelling City.  What programs do your elementary schools use for spelling?

Thank you!

Spelling Mastery and I love it!!!!! My kids understand the rules better than my kids in the past because of this program.

Hi Jennifer,
I'm not sure if you currently have them, but our district has used Spelling City and their company has transitioned their users/us to Vocabulary A-Z. So far it has been a huge downgrade to the features Spelling City had (at least what we were used to). There are more games/phonics/vocab components but the spelling part is lacking. Teachers cannot post just activities, they have to also assign an assessment portion. Word lists are limited to 15 words. Classrooms are limited to 26 students or they have to be split by support into multiple "classrooms". We just had a teacher report that the spelling test results don't show what the student typed as a wrong answer, only the correct answer (reaching out to support to see if this info is anywhere). From a management side it is much harder to add students to classrooms from the admin login.

Finally, their support turnaround times has been sometimes 7-10 days. Spelling City was usually 24-48 hours max. I have been disappointed. I will be following this thread for any recommendations as well. Thanks!

Hi everyone!

I am having the same issue with Vocab A-Z and I have reached out to them. It has been a huge downgrade. You cannot see how they spelled the word incorrectly, there are far too many steps involved with the students trying to turn in their assessments, and one thing that I used Spelling City for was assessing and then printing out the results. This is another thing that I am unable to do. I am continuing to follow this thread as well in hopes that we can find a better online solution for spelling.
