This happens with most if not all applications on my Mac, but that includes GEDitCOM so I'm asking the question here as I think I am more likely to get a sensible answer here than in other online sources.

When I open GEDitCOM the File:Open Recent menu is always blank despite the fact I have opened a number of files recently.

Like I said it happens with other apps too, but if anyone knows a solution, I would be grateful.

Hi Simon

Have you checked 'System Settings -> Control Centre -> Recent Documents, applications and servers'. Just in case it's inadvertently set to 0. It's set to 10 for me.

Using Sonoma 14.5

Regards, Richard

I can confirm that most apps do nothing to handle Open Recent because MacOS does it all. GEDitCOM II does implement one method to omit browser style files from recent documents, but nothing else.

I have seen that menu go empty randomly, but never could be sure if that was because I am working with developer versions in debugging mode or if something else. The menu usually works OK.

Thanks for the suggestion. Mine was already set to 10. Not sure if that affects applications or just the Recent Items in the Apple Menu. My Apple Menu recent items are working fine it's just the ones in individual Application's File menus.

I did phone Apple but they wouldn't help because I am running Sequoia beta. I know that is not the issue, as I have had over several OS versions. I'll just have to wait until September when OS15 is released so they will help me!
