I fixed a few remaining cosmetic issues in the "Default Format." I also improved counting of multimedia objects (which could be off if same object was attached both to the record and to an event).

To get it, run the "Download Extension" command in the Extensions->Utilities menu and choose "Default Format" (near the top of the list). You can pick "To System Extensions" to overwrite your current version or "To User Extensions" to try a copy first. Note: do not reinstall GEDitCOM II, because that download file will have previous Default Format until the next update.

You can also try an experimental "Consolidated Format." This format is identical to the "Default Format" except that "All" panes (which are used for individuals, families, multimedia, and research log records) were moved to the first pane (and their "All" panes are removed). The request was to make the "All" view the default view.

This trial format actually contains the "Default Format" as a special case. By changing the "Single Pane View" from "yes" (as downloaded) to "no", the Consolidated Format reverts to the Default Format style (with "All" panes back). It is thus two formats in one. If people like the "Consolidated Format", I might make it the "Default Format" but I would start it with "Single Pane View" set to "no".

Hi John,

I tried downloading the "Consolidated Format" which would really interest me.

I run the command you mentioned in your e-mail, but I got the following message:

The downloaded extension could not be expanded

You can try downloading and/or expanding manually.

It seems that the 'ConsolidatedFormat.gfmrt.zip' file is empty. It only weighs 922 bytes.

I know it can still be downloaded from the GEDitCOM II website, but I wanted to let you know anyway.

Best,

Stéphane L

Thanks for letting me know. I have fixed it and you can get "Consolidated Format" either with the extension (and manual download that was always works too).

The fix was a typo is the file name to be downloaded. My file list had "gfmrt" instead of "gfrmt". It took me pasting code into AI to spot the typo. The nature of "r" and "m" is that they look similar even when order is switched.

The other confusing thing was that even with bad name it downloaded something. The script downloads using "curl" in a shell command line. I think if file is not found it downloads a "File Not Found" file that is 922 bytes but saved as a zip file because that I name I assumed would be correct. When I changed the downloaded file to have extension html and open in a browser, it says "404 Error: Page Not Found". I will look into trapping this error (or be more careful not to make typos in the file list).
