I just came across a 2017 reference to an iOS(?) app that worked with GEDitCOM, but appears to no longer exist. Does anyone have recommendations for one? I suspect it's probably too much to hope that data will make a round trip unscathed, but even something to use as a reference would be handy.

I use GedView.

Export your GEDCOM from GEDitCOM and import it into GedView. I find that everything that is standard GEDCOM transfers over well and it means that I have a reference for my family tree on the go. I don’t make changes in GedView though so I can’t vouch for the round trip.

If you create a zip file with your GEDCOM file and all of your media and import that into GedView, you get all your media also although that can get quite large.

Hope that helps

Richard

That app was called GEDitMobile and it was very compatible with GEDitCOM II including import of thumbnails of images (I worked with the developer), but it is no longer available. Unfortunately, it was written by some old iOS methods. The developer has recently started to convert to new iOS (using the Swift language) and it might reappear. His first goal is to have a full read-only copy so you can carry your data on your phone, but editing would done on computer in GEDitCOM II. If there is interest, some editing options might be made available later with the goal of making round trip data transfers 100% accurate.

Any status changes will be posted on this group.

Many thanks for that John. Actually I've just found the reference to the app; it's on your site! Presumably an orphaned page that's gone unnoticed?
