GEDitCOM II version 3.4 just posted

I just posted version 3.4 of GEDitCOM II. It mostly has things pointed out or requested recently on this list. Examples are fixed a bug in "Notes" pane after html notes, fixed missing "stepmother" or "stepfather" when needed in relationship chart, internal scripting command to merge records, and change to internal scripting command when opening GEDCOM files under script control. A few other changes are in the "What's New" help topic in the help window.

See www.geditcom.com to get it or (or click link after checking for updates in GEDitCOM II). My browser had to refresh to see new web content, but download can only get the new version (not matter when the browser display says). Safari updated better than Firefox.

Hm. After installing 3.4b1, clicked on the dock icon for my family tree.

The first time, after the standard MacOS “first time” dialog, several windows flashed by, one of which I think had a button with something like “clean update” before vanishing.

Closed everything and did it again. This time (and every subsequent time), the initial Welcome window shows up, along with a smaller window that states anything larger than 1,000 items cannot be opened. I click OK and both windows vanish, and sometimes my data is opened. But sometimes not, but in that case, opening my database from the File menu works fine.

My biggest concern is the “clean update” thing which I haven’t been able to reproduce. What was that about?

The first time I opened the new version I had something similar - I don't recall exactly and cancelled. But then I did it again and everything was fine.

What I'm still seeing with this version is that if I double-click a .gedpkg file while GEDitCOM II's not open, the application opens and displays this error message:

    The document "Garvey.gedpkg" could not be opened.

    'Free Mode' can only open files with <1000 individuals. Visit geditcom.com to register and unlock viewing and editing of any file size.

But if the applications's already open when I double-click the file, the document's loaded in its entirety with no problem.

The app is registered on my machine, by the way.
