in engineering and mathematics, when study something like a sistem composed by some components, are made hipotesis about components and  their property. Using these initial dates, can be determined relations between components, global properties, evolution in time. For example when study one fluid, can be made hipotesis of ideal fluid wich is a izotrope and deformable without effort mass. using these properties , is possible to study the flow aroun one object, fro calculate one airplane wich fly with  low speed. For detect thermodinamic properties is required another hypotesis that the fluid is composed from a lot of small components (molecules).
So the initial hypotesis about sistem is essential to reach some useful results.
When study contexts in general life of peoples , the elementary components are objects from general life and actions . The definition of objects and actions can be found in vocabulary of any human language. For example in game theory when is studied a context wich involve competition , cooperation or another type  of interaction, the elements of context are objects, rules, players and their decisions, all are  defined by words wich can be found in vocabulary and are enought for make succesfull study.
When study some phenomenas as global consciouness , accurate predictions made by some people, links between events my opinion is that the initial model is not good. The situation is like when study a gas : for study flow, is enought hypotesis of deformable mass , when study thermodinamic transformations , is required to know the structure of this mass.
For determine the elementary components of these kinds of sistems , one entry point can be your random generators of numbers. If can be found intervals of time in wich  apear  corelations between numbers generated during another ebvent in another sistem, this can give informations about duration of one component wich can have influence about external sistems .
I'll be back with  another considerations.

"If can be found intervals of time in wich  apear  corelations between numbers generated during another ebvent in another sistem"
That was the motivation behind the web application I wrote "theWorldHappinessMeter.org", which collected subjective reports of well-being.  The goal was to compare the time and geographic location of a large number of those reports from humans with the GCP random number generators to see if there might be correlations between the two.

I took the site down for lack of interest.  I'm happy to put it back online if GCP or some other entity thinks the data would be worthwhile.  Ideas are also welcome on how to publicize it to get the necessary wide usage so that there's enough data to be useful.

Happy to manage/setup/market all social media profiles to get exposure with daily/weekly updates etc...

Seems like there is enough reach/interest for it looking at potential hashtags & related content/accounts etc. across the web..

Markus,
I've still got the domain name and code.  With your assistance for marketing, I'm happy to put it back up, updating the code to new versions of the mapping API that's included, the comparisons with global well-being indices, etc.

Also, there was an issue with not having a formal hypothesis for study of correlations with GCP data.  I'm not a researcher but a technician, so we might need yourself or someone else to come up with that.  I assume something like deciding what "correlated" means, for example a standard deviation in WorldHappinessMeter (WHM) reports within some temporal window along with whatever is considered in GCP to be a significant deviation from pure random.  But that hypothesis is above my pay grade.

Finally, heads up that the WHM is a web application, not an installable phone app.

Hi Ron,

Thank you very much for getting back to me so quickly, highly appreciated. I'll ask a buddy of mine (Samuel Reid: https://math.ucalgary.ca/ccdg/news/samuel-reid-applies-discrete-geometry-science-and-engineering) if he is interested in helping us out... He should be able to come up with meaningful correlations I suppose...  Let me know if I can share your personal email with him please, so we can get this "going"

Awesome,

Looking forward to hearing from you soon,

Kindest Regards,

Markus

Markus,
Yes, by all means share my email with Samuel Reid.

Just let me know when we're good to go and I'll get to work on the software.

This conversation is interesting, and I look forward to the next questions and the designs for answering them. Recently, the GCP's long-term picture was updated by Dean Radin to include the last several years, and it may inspire some thoughts on the meaningful correlations question. I don't know how long the World Happiness Meter has been running, but there are now a variety of social media measures that have several years, as much as a decade of history, not as long as GCP, but a substantial database.

Below is a picture of all the data over 20 years, processed with the algorithm we have used for most of the events comprising the formal series of GCP hypothesis tests. It is called the network variance, computed as the squared Stouffer's Z across all RNGs per second, which is Chisquare distributed with 1 df. This also can be understood as a measure of correlation among the RNGs during that second. The score for an event is just the sum of the Chisquares across all N seconds in the event, which is also Chisquare distributed, with N degrees of freedom. For ease of presentation the Chisquares are converted to Z scores.

Interesting graph.

Marcus, maybe Dr. Reid would be interested in Roger's description of the algorithm?

What kind of "social media measures"?  Derivations from tweets using natural language processing?  Targeted surveys similar to WorldHappinessMeter?
What's the level of interest for targeted subjective reports - to also include timestamp and locale information - in the context of Radu's original post on the coupling of disparate systems?

I haven't heard anything, so I'm assuming Dr. Reid did not respond or was not interested in helping with a hypothesis?

That being said, in the event that there is interest in re-instating the WorldHappinessMeter, some possibilities of groups that might have some shared interest:
  • IONS
  • HeartMath (I exchanged about twenty emails with Rollin McCraty on this a few years back)
  • The two or three international polling organizations that conduct global well-being surveys every two to three years, at considerable expense
  • Some organizations that are more oriented toward supporting happiness - as opposed to dispassionately reporting levels - but may be starting points for marketing:
Best,
Ron

In a related vein,
" The Android Earthquake Alerts System is an earthquake detection network that uses Google Play Android phones. All smartphones contain accelerometers that are sensitive enough to detect P-waves, the less damaging initial wave that comes out of an earthquake. When an Android phone detects something that could be an earthquake, it will send a signal to Google's earthquake detection center along with a general location. The server collaborates the information to detect earthquakes as they happen. The system can notify people of earthquakes up to one minute before the damaging S-wave of an earthquake arrives. It will be distributed through Google Play Services for every Android device running version 5.0 and up. Users will be able to toggle the feature through the Google Location Services switch in settings."
