Hi All,

Currently I am using Google Cloud Platform to Create and Deploy projects. Earlier I have created Projects in the Google Cloud with out selecting any organisation(there is no organisation concept in mid of 2016). Now I also need to create a new Project. But this time, It is asking me to select the Organisation. Okay I have selected that one, and created a new project. While I am trying to enable billing, it is warning me to create a new billing account.

My question is:

If I update my billing account to a new Organization. Will it make any impact on my existing one's?

If I update my existing projects from No Organisation level to Organization level, will my application changes??

What are the benefits/demerits by updating existing projects from No organization level to Organization level??

I tried to contact the sales team, but they are not sure of this issue. For that reason I am posting the question here. Please help if any one aware of this. I am really needed. Thank you.

Thanks & Regards,
Baji Yakkati.

Hi Baji

This is indeed a relative recent feature and is evolving amazingly fast.

A billing account can belong to a organization and still be linked to a project that is not within the same organization. Nevertheless, currently the WUI does not offers an option to perform such link. Instead the relationship must be established using the CLI or the  Billing API. I believe if you move the billing account to an organization, the link to the original project should be preserved. Nevertheless I suggest once this is done to verify that the original project is still linked. If that is not the case you can use “gcloud alpha billing accounts projects link” to re-establish it.

The public information does not mention any special considerations when performing a migration.  Nevertheless I am trying to obtain additional information. Once you move a project within an organization, the default policies will apply. I am not sure at this moment how this could affect the project.

Please check this article for a complete list of benefits. Basically it will ease the administration of all the projects that belongs to a company. It has the additional advantage that the projects belong to an organization instead to an employee.

Thanks to all for helping me out to surmount this issue. Now, I am able to enable billing with my existing billing account. By linking the new project to the existing Billing account.
gcloud alpha billing accounts projects link PROJECT_ID --account-id=ACCOUNT_ID[GLOBAL-FLAG …]
By using this command I linked the project.

Thanks Again.

Thanks for your update Baji,

I have actually verified with the backend team that the main concern when migrating a project into an organization is making sure that the billing account is still linked.
