I'd look at logs on the offending machine. I run many different machine types in us-central (55 machines) and have never seen a machine freeze up on us like that.

Hi all,

I have a VM instance that a few times a day, and for a few seconds each time, it loses access to any resources - disk/cpu/memory - so MySQL will fail, Redis will be in wait mode, and even any open SSH sessions will "freeze". At first I thought that this was a software issue from my side, but it occurred even when I stopped all running services on the instance.

This only started happening a few weeks ago, and there are days when it doesn't happen at all.

On top of that, yesterday there was a 10 minute period where CPU usage jumped to 100%, again upon investigation this was not traffic or software related.

Anybody seen similar issues?

Just saying I haven't had that issue. How was I supposed to know. Sorry for asking.

I've been on GCP for years @around $6000-7000 USD/mo. and never had a machine freeze up unless it ran low on ram and swap was non-existant. I normally run swapless.

Hello Sherif,

You can login through the serial console to verify the processes utilizing the CPU and the memory when instance is in unresponsive state. However, You can try changing your machine type with more resources (eg: CPU, Memory) and verify if you still encounter the same problem with the instance.
