Hi,

I try use FTP on google compute engine.

I installed vsftpd on CentOS 7 and config it but i can't connect with FTP.

I used Filezilla for  FTP connection.

I try connect with root user after modify /etc/vsftpd/ftpusers and getting the following error : 500 OOPS: vsftpd: refusing to run with writable root inside chroot()
.
someone can help me?

I don't believe this has anything to do with GCE -- it's a common problem with vsftpd unless installed/tuned carefully, see e.g https://www.benscobie.com/fixing-500-oops-vsftpd-refusing-to-run-with-writable-root-inside-chroot/ .

TL;DR: have you set, in your vsftpd configuration file (/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf),

allow_writeable_chroot=YES

...?

PS: saluti alla bella Brescia!

Hi Alex i try set allow_writeable_chroot=YES but the problem persist.
I think the FTP don't work because i can't open port in the Firewall rules of Google Cloud Panel.
I set a rule with port but, when i check the port with some tools it's closed.
I set rules for my other instance and them work with it.
