There are also more extensive network benchmarks in the cloud benchmarking tool PerfKitBenchmarker hosted on GitHub.
ping is useful but it does not capture transaction latency, give a too measure of an http request, etc. For steady state latency try netperf TCP_[C]RR or UDP_RR benchmarks.
All the above including ping are in PerfKit.
