Hello there,
I really thinking about leaving GCP and give AWS a try because of the bugs that I faced here, but I decide to give this group a try as Google offer no support at all on their service.
My issue:
After hard time of customizing my resource's on GCP, now I am facing an error each time I want to reach anything on my own projects! Like all of IAM & Admin sections or even settings of each project, and I get this error message:
You don't have permissions to perform the action on the selected resource.

So, what can I do now to fix this? I am facing this issue with all of my projects that connected to this email: over...@gounlimited.pro , not even one project is working fine.

Hello Bader,

It seems you don’t have administrator role for your project to access IAM resources.

I need following information from your side:-

  1. Are you getting permission denied for IAM resource  page only or for other GCP resources as well? Are you able to access other GCP resources like GCE, GAE etc?

  2. Is your billing account is active and linked to your GCP project. You can manager billing account through this link[1].

  3. Please provide me your project number through private message.

So, what can I do now to fix this? I am facing this issue with all of my projects that connected to this email: overwatch@gounlimited.pro , not even one project is working fine.

GCP has no documentation on this, and Google makes it IMPOSSIBLE for you to contact anyone regarding issues for INDIVIDUAL USERS. 2018, this is beyond frustrating. There is no fix for this - my account is completely destroyed. I dont have permission to do anything on GCP - I am the admin of my google account / apps account my organisation. I'm moving to Axure, AWS or IBM.

On google cloud Platform -> Billing, I keep getting this message "Project “XX Project” is linked to billing account “XX Billing”. You don’t have permission to access this account."

However, I have all the permissions needed, for both the Billing Account and the project, and in fact I can see all the information for the billing account on Google Payments.

There seems to be some glitch in Cloud Platform that prevents new Billing Account Administrators from seeing information in the Google Cloud Platform Billing screen... which is very very tedious and frustrating.

Hi, I added as "Organization Policy > Organization Policy Administrator" for our organization but don't have permission to see the IAM for the organization, nor list/access all projects. This is a major blocker for us... Any ideas?

I have the same issue and was able to work around it. You go to Billing  and be sure you have an organization setup.

You need to be sure you set up an organization. Do this first.

Go to IAM & admin > Identity & Organization
and see if your organization shows up in the frame on the right and select it to see if it shows up.

IF you have an organization, then go to Three Bars top left corner > Marketplace

In the blue bar Three Bars top left corner > Google Cloud Platform
you should see your organization show up there as a toggle and click on it and window pops up with your organization. Click on NEW PROJECT and name it whatever you want and associate it with your Billing Account (or another project) and click create.

Now go to the three bars > Home

you should see the project on your dashboard. If you see in the middle of the page "Page not viewable for organizations. To view this page, select a project." Click select and see if you see your new project in the list. Select it and it appears on your home page.

Now you can go to  IAM & admin > IAM
you should be able to view the Permissions for project.

Hope this helps.

I have the same issue and unfortunately the proposed work around didn't work for me either. Which options do I have?

Hello Hugo,

The main issue reported above, and while permission related might not be similar, and apparently was transient at the time. As such, I recommend creating an issue tracker report using the private Cloud IAM component to investigate. Doing so, please provide the following:

  • Project ID to verify your permissions.

  • Error message.

  • Clarify if this is only affecting one project. (has it been working with other projects ?)

  • If this is a new implementation (first time to enable and use the project or API)

  • If your implementation was initially working in the same project.

  • All reproduction steps as to verify if this issue is reproducible.

  • Any documents/tutorials that you have been following

Hi There,

just an update for the new user.

Same thing happened with us as well and then we realize that Account Set was incomplete.

You receive an email from Googl GCP about your new account creation and you need to confirm and answer few questions once you complete this form after logging out and log-in again will resolve this issue.

Thanks.!

So I think I found the solution add the  'Project Creator' permission seem to fix the problem. No mention of this permission being needed but hey

If you any IAM related issue, I would refer IAM FAQ to see common/know issues, as I can't find any details of the issue in this thread.

You did took a very good step indeed migrating to other vendor , GCP  is really a terrible thing

I've used them both, if you read documentation and understand IAM it's not that bad at all, All vendors have issues, I host mainly in digital ocean for smaller projects, but for my larger projects with 200+ VM's and all the bells and whistles google api's provide it's almost always google cloud platform, I spend $20k/month and the performance is top notch, and it's easier for my clients to get around the interface in easily named products that normally describe things very well.

I realize this is an older discussion, but as I was having similar issues and stumbled in here through a Google search, I thought I would share what I ultimately learned that fixed my problem for any future folks who come searching.

Issue:
I am using a single-user account (no organization) that is the owner of the project in question. I am using Cloud DNS to host all the DNS entries for a variety of web/app servers, mostly Linode VPS's and a few OVHcloud bare-metal hypervisors. I have been using this service for the last few years with only a few rare issues*.

Recently, I logged in to update a DNS entry, and although I could see all of my resources, anytime I attempted to edit them I got the message that You do not have the required permissions to change or modify records etc. I haven't changed any of my account settings or done anything recently to alter permissions or roles in this account. Even after explicitly adding all of the DNS and project admin roles to my user account, along with the existing Owner role, I still received the same message and could not edit any entries in Cloud DNS.

Resolution:
Since I had not taken any recent actions or made any changes to my account or projects, I tried to consider other factors that had recently changed, one of which was moving from using Chrome to Vivaldi. The issue turned out to be the privacy settings in my browser. After turning off tracking protection and advertisement blocking in Vivaldi's site settings, everything went back to normal.

Hopefully this will help someone.

* Off-topic: I think it's absurd that Google will disable my services and stop serving responses to DNS queries for a late payment on an account that has only ever accrued $2-$3/month in fees, indeed at the time services were suspended I owed $2.80, and the only reason the payment was late was that it was the first month after having run through my initial free credits, which took so long my registered credit card on the account had since been cancelled.
