Google pushed a restart to one of my servers in response to a hostError. Does anyone know what this means or how I can avoid it in the future?

compute.instances.hostError

followed by:

compute.instances.automaticRestart

Thanks.

This means there was a hardware problem on the machine hosting your VM.  The control system recognized this fact and restarted your VM on a new machine as the old one died.

Unfortunately, hardware does fail from time to time and there's really no way to avoid the rare occurrence other than luck.
