This article details the profond impact bicycles have in the developing world, particularly for women. Perhaps a club donation to a bicycle charity would be preferable to the tour leader stipend.

I personally donate to World Bicycle Relief (https://worldbicyclerelief.org/) which supports individuals (especially women) in developing countries.
