Same coach, same staff, he only started one game last year?

We are now poaching backups from FCS schools. How does this make sense?

For him?  It doesn’t…. The only thing that I can think of currently is that we have Bowman & Lingard are the only healthy RB’s in the room.  Nayquan is rehabbing.  Don’t know what you’re going to get him from him this year?  RB depth would be it.  Makes me wonder if they know we’re not getting Citizen?

I think this may just be one of those times when you have to give your new coach a little latitude and assume he has a reason for what he does, even if it's not obvious to us. It sure doesn’t seem like this kid adds much to a very strong running back room, but it may be for depth as mentioned, it may be that he wants to sprinkle some guys in key position groups who know his system, or it may be that he thinks this is a special player who is going to perform well above his high school rating. Who knows? So many things must change with a new coach in place that I just figure he knows more about what he’s doing than I do, so I’ll just let him do his thing and judge him based on results. Like any of us, he’ll get some of it right and some of it wrong, but in the end he needs to put together a competent team that can win all of the games they’re supposed to win and some of the games they’re not. I’m not as sold on Napier as a lot of others are, but he’s here so I’m ready to give him his chance.

Very true!  One thing that looks good about Napier is that he did things at UL that NO other Coach has ever done.  Yes, Mullen won a lot of games at MSU, but they had been there before with previous coaches. We all questioned his recruiting prowess, and just assumed it would pick up with the Gator logo on his chest. It didn’t!    I think Napier was the best choice for what was available.  He seems to be able to recruit!  Of course, we need to hold judgement for after next year on that.  I think the only other coach I may have been more excited about is Luke Fickel, but he’s not an SEC guy.  I wonder how he would recruit here?

I have no idea as to how well Napier coaches.

However, the days where we could have 7 coaches and assistants, draw plays up on a napkin, and go toe to toe with Alabama and Georgia are gone.

Napier has changed the system to enable our UAA to be competitive with our primary SEC rivals, recruiting and on the field.

For that, I am pleased and grateful.

I believe the news article mentioned him helping on the scout squad. And, helping with knowledge of Napier’s system.
He will probably never make it to starter, although running backs are depleted in numbers, right now.

To add to Oliver's note, " And, helping with knowledge of Napier’s system...." I suspect it's also helpful to have players who can model Napier's off-field system.
