Good news! While Miami is a fertile recruiting ground, one must not forget our own back yard in the Jacksonville High Schools.
We should always have the elite players from there.
This kid looks like a monster, too!

Trinity Christian Super 11 lineman Austin Barber commits to Florida

Clayton Freeman
Florida Times-Union
Trinity Christian offensive tackle Austin Barber (left), a Super 11 selection, blocks during preseason high school football practice. Barber, who helped Trinity to the Class 3A state title on Wednesday night, committed Thursday night to the University of Florida.

One day after winning a state championship at the home of the Seminoles, Austin Barber is committing his football future to their classic rivals.

The Super 11 offensive lineman announced his commitment to the University of Florida on Thursday evening on Twitter.

Barber, a member of the Times-Union's Super 11, had de-committed from Minnesota in November.

Listed at 6-7, 300 pounds, Barber lined up at left tackle throughout the season as the Conquerors won their last 12 games and won the Florida High School Athletic Association championship in Class 3A, the eighth state title in school history. Trinity rallied from a 16-0 hole to defeat Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna 25-22 at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.

Barber helped to clear the way for the Conquerors' 2,127 yards on the ground during the season, despite several injuries at the running back position.

He's the Gators' third player to commit from the Jacksonville area for the 2021 class. His Trinity Christian teammate, wide receiver Marcus Burke, signed during the opening of the early signing period on Wednesday, as did Episcopal tight end Nick Elksnis.

There’s a story behind this story, but I am not sure what it is.

3 of our 5 OL verbals did not sign in the early signing period. One even held a signing ceremony, but UF has not acknowledged him as a signee.

I hear that we pushed them back into the regular signing period. They did not sign elsewhere, and our competition on these three did not seem that impressive (i.e. UAB, Maryland).

I hear grades may be an issue. I also hear that we might be trying to upgrade at the position. I also heard that Mullen has been burned by accepting LOIs from players that didn’t make their grades, and losing out on other prospects as a result.

We had 6 empty slots after Wednesday, now it looks like 5. This player looks like a fine prospect, but not especially better than the ones that we pushed back into the regular signing period. Perhaps grades are not an issue for Austin.

I think that we are in the hunt against Oklahoma for an elite 5* lineman, and are holding a spot for him. Tristan Leigh is supposed to announce at an all-star game on 1/2.

Perhaps someone else knows more, strange OL recruiting this year.

The one who had a signing ceremony, Javonte Gardner, ended up signing with Deion Sanders at Jackson State.

Gardener was the kid from Jones HS in Orlando that held the signing ceremony.  The problem with that stunt was he didn't have a UF LOI to sign...

I don't know if he did it to try and pressure our coaches into sending him one or not, but whatever it was backfired on him.  The kid is a great player 4* talent for sure.  The fact he signed with JSU and had no other committable offers tells me grades nightfall been the issue...
