Casting Notice: Discovery Theater seeks actors for How Old is a Hero production

Smithsonian’s Discovery Theater is seeking submissions for its upcoming Winter 2023 production of How Old is a Hero? directed by Ashara Knyshel.

Seeking three African-American artists to portray Ruby Bridges, Claudette Colvin (of the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycotts), and Ernest Green (of the Little Rock Nine) as they tell the story of the children of the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement. Singing and movement experience a plus. Experience teaching or performing for young audiences preferred, but not required.

Rehearsals will take place select weekday, daytimes, January 11th – February 6th, and performances will occur daytimes, February 7th-10th at the Smithsonian on the National Mall in DC; followed by a tour to local schools, and venues in the DMV, Feb 13th-28th.  All rehearsals and performances are PAID and actors must pass a federal background check.

Virtual auditions will be considered the week of January 3rd, and in-person callbacks will be held on Friday, January 6th from 11:00am-2:00pm.  For consideration, please send your headshot and resume to: Ga...@si.edu.  Non-equity preferred; artists 18+ only.
