"Casting needs (all characters are Black):
Willie (veteran sister, 30s–40s)
Reg (brother, 30s–40s)
Joe Earl (youngest brother, 20s–30s)
Uncle Baynard (50s-70s)
Ms. Allen (property inspector, 30s–50s)
Between the Space of Things follows siblings Willie, Reg, and Joe Earl as they decide the fate of their late father’s home—a choice complicated by heirs’ property law, a history of wrongful incarceration, and the scars of re-entry. Set in Chicago's westside neighborhood and told through crisp, intimate scenes, the play probes how inter-sibling dynamics, colorism, duty, and survival shape who gets to keep the story—and the house. It’s an ensemble-forward, dialogue-rich piece built for staged readings and small-cast productions, inviting audiences into a living room where love, blame, and legacy are all on the table.
I’m organizing a staged reading (about 90 minutes, with 2–3 short rehearsals), and there will be a modest honorarium ($100 per actor) for participating actors."
