Good morning, all
I hope all is well! At my high school (it's an alternative high school located in Petworth-NW DC), we are planning a pop-up black history month event for the young men in our building. We see the time being spent talking and sharing about the black male experience while connecting with the young men at our school.
Our students come from a myriad of situations that caused an interruption in the educational journey. Many of the young men are parents, have experience with the criminal justice system, deal with mental illness, are working and going to school, and come from single-parent homes. We want this forum to provide them a chance to meet black men who are successful and can provide some guidance/life skills experience to help them stay the course.
We will have a teacher and school counselor in the room to help lead the discussion and provide context as well.
The details:
Wednesday, February 26
1 pm - Arrival
1:15 pm - 2:30 pm - Forum
2:30 pm - 3 pm - Networking Reception / Photos
Let me know if you are interested and available to participate. I need 3 black male "mentors" who can inspire, motivate, and encourage our young men.
Thanks in advance!
Carletta
