Hi All,

I'm needing to add images that are 4x the resolution (and therefore size) of the images I typically add to my gallery.  At 12208x8061, ImageMagick appears to be choking when trying to resize them.  Unfortunately, the G3 log doesn't provide any information other than that it failed.  Thus, I don't know if the limitation is in G3, ImageMagick, or some settings on my server, which I may or may not be able to address.  If anyone has any ideas on resolving this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Beo

Try changing your graphics tool from ImageMagick to GD (in admin/graphics).

It should be writing something to the logs in var/logs.

Hi Adrian,

I'd considered that, but all reviews I saw indicated GD is weaker than ImageMagick to I didn't bother trying.

As far as the logs, as mentioned, they DO have messages.  Just nothing useful.

Hi Andre,

Unless that can be chosen as the image converter in Gallery 3, then it's not what I'm looking for.  I'm not looking for a manual tool.  I'm looking for G3 to be able to handle creating thumbnails and resizes for the large images I'm uploading.

Hmm - not the most useful logs 😁   You could try setting debug messages on, to see if you get anything more useful although I'm doubtful.  Or, if it's your own server, maybe Apache logs?  I'm on a shared hosting environment so have no access to stuff like that myself.

I use GD and have no issue uploading large photos which then get resized for display and thumbnails.  How large are your photos in MB?  Standard jpeg compression?

Do you have any memory parameters set (for PHP) in .user.ini or php.ini wherever they're set nowadays?

Also, you can just switch to GD easily in the admin menu, upload a photo, and then switch back to IM.  Just to test, as it could be a temporary workaround for you if successful.

(Personally, I've no problems with the GD bundled in PHP 8.x)
