to FriCAS - computer algebra system
Dear FriCAS Group,

FriCAS is up to now not available as a Debian package. Although installation from source is quite easy - i think official .deb packages increase both acceptance and the scope of new potential users within the GNU/Linux community.
Are there any current attempts to get FriCAS into Debian? I would like to start packaging if you find it promising. Please let me know any obstacles or other things i should know regards licensing, community hurdles, etc. and if you recommend to start this project.

Best,

Your attempt to package for FriCAS is welcomed. Are you a Debian
developer? There were attempts before, as you can see the deleted
"debian/" directory from git history. I think the problems in
the past was no upstream Debian developers was willing to maintain it.

Best,
Qian

There were several attempts at creating Debian package.
Good start to find info on this is to Google search for
"FriCAS" Debian. AFAICS technical problems (at least
known problems) are solved. I would guess that main
obstacle is that Debian wants maintainer for a package.
Practiacally, if "start packaging" is to lead to
official Debian package, then you volunteer to be
package maintainer. And you need to convince Debian
developers that you know what to do and are commited
enough...
