It needs a version. Chances are that the same computation on different versions gives different

(hopefully equivalent) results.

By the way, with releases done on GitHub it is easy to get an official DOI for each release.

Oh, thank you. At least the year should be updated. Any yes, maybe it
should read:

you need to register the repository on https://zenodo.org/
(this is for any digital assets, not specific to GutHub or anything)

And then on GitHub in the top directory of the repository you put a file
with metadata named CITATION.cff,

e.g. that's what we have for SageMath:
