I'm doing some writing about GoFish and I'm wondering there are any generally accepted names for the different sections of the main UI. As I see it. there are four sections:

1) the top part where you set up your search;
2) the left pane with the treeview of files and classes;
3) the middle right pane with the list of matched lines; I lean toward "Results" for this one;
4) the bottom right pane with one match in context.

Before I make up my own names for these, wondering if people have already settled on names.

I can't say that in all my discussions with Matt there was much concentration on terminology; when there was we tended to disagree.

In any case, I have some suggestions (below) not remarkably different from your text.

4) the bottom right pane with one match in context.  Match Context

BTW, I'm one of those who does not use the standard alignment of the Results Grid and Match Context (I have the Match Context to the left of the Results Grid), so your description of where they are found isn't right for me.  (Who knows, I might be the only one who doesn't use the default alignment.)

Jim -- How do you rearrange the panes? I see that there are splitters to resize them, but how would you get the Results Grid and the Match Context (using your terms) side-by-side?

As for the terms, Results Grid works for me. Your first two seem too long to use over and over in writing. Not sure yet about Match Context; it feels like it's short a noun, but it may grow on me.

I use the combo above the context thing (not a recommendation):

This has the advantage of showing the Match Context as tall and narrow (like code) and also the Results Grid to show as many rows as possible.  I only use the default setting in those very rare times when I'm on a laptop.

Not sure yet about Match Context; it feels like it's short a noun, but it may grow on me. So, this one is too short?  How about Context Display?

Ah, I hadn’t noticed that. I’ll have to be sure to write about the “default” positions and describe how to change it.

Last comment.  GF itself refers to the ‘Code View Position’ for what we have suggesting be called ‘Context’.

So I think you should use ‘Code View’ instead.
