Thanks, Aaron, for sharing this article.  

I was a trainer at Penn Center on St. Helena Island years ago.  It was my first time in South Carolina (and the South) and learning about the Gullah Geechee and their connection to Sierra Leone was fascinating.  What's been happening for many years now with the loss of and access to their land is a real shame.

Some of you may already know of this cookbook but if you don't, it's well worth reading -- besides recipes, the author also talks about growing up on Edisto Island:
