I work with a company that stores 227l metal drums of fruit juice concentrates and pastes. The products have a pH of <4.2 they are pasteurized and very stable. They are delivered into our yard at ambient temperature from abroad by the client's contractors. We store the barrels in chilled and frozen conditions and our client has a mirror image of our stores on their computerized system. They tell us where to place the barrels and when they want them removing for putting on their transport.

8 people run this service, 6 of whom are forklift truck drivers and 2 in the office.

I have to find a way of answering this clause without my staff becoming cynical. We have to be able to measure ongoing quality improvements in our culture and frankly, I'm finding that difficult. We are a AA site and already work very efficiently, if I have to institute training and measurements, that will be a cost to our company for negligible gains in food safety, quality or (being pragmatic) financial return. And this has to be improved year on year.

I have not spotted anything that says we can risk assess this out so I am wondering what others are doing to satisfy the requirement.

Stay safe.

Richard

Hi Richard
As you describe, there is a scenario with high level of compliance isn FS Culture. A BRC AA  permit supposes that several dimensions of the GFSI FS Culture are met.
In order to assure compliance with 1.1.2 clause may be required a Pre Assessment against the GFSI document. in order to determine which of the 5 levels of development are in each position of the organizational chart and other intended parties. This could minimize the amount of actions/costs.
If you are interested I would offer the referred service in a remote mode.

Your actions here can be in a grey area that may be up to auditor interpretation to weather they are implementation, or common control. If you come to an understanding you might want to have something in writing to that fact.
