->>>> Sorry, everyone about the Level 2 training message I sent out this past week.
I did NOT mean level 2 sailing practice. My error on picking the incorrect words.
I meant John, Miz and I envision introducing people who already know how to sail the basics of racing.

The title could be Intro to Racing.
The idea is to select days with NO regattas, or camps or race days and show those interested how to perform starts, dock the boat, put the spinnaker up and jibe/take it down, rules of the road, rounding a mark and so forth. Each day could be one skill. A brief clinic on land before we go on the water is what John and I and I think Miz envision. Any day with wind below 4 or above 8 is a NO GO> ( low wind days could be a practice spinnaker day)
These sessions would be for people who already know how to sail, but need to learn the rules, how to's and have someone guide them so they can do racing on their own.
We only need the board's approval and the dates.
Note: Dates may be sporadic since our schedule is already packed, but I think we can squeeze in a few days.
Miz asked for a brief meeting to clarify roles beforehand, but we need dates first and then we can have our meeting.
Please support us.
Thanks.

HI Brent,
This is a followup email on our proposed Racing Training you and I discussed at the Commodore banquet and the subsequent Llewelywn meeting/ emails.
The idea was to have a Saturday racing practice so new sailors could gain confidence on the course and we could eventually get new sailors into racing.
Part of this was my conversations with new sailors who told me despite the good training in Adult Sail, they feared the race course.
John Cassada, Miz and myself are willing to create this experience and help recruit newbies.
We have not heard back on any detail or conversations/needed actions to move this forward.
If you did send me or us an email, I did not receive it.

What do we need to do next to make it happen?  Please update us.
Thanks.
Chris Beutler

I love this idea.  On Saturdays, Our family could participate on May 10th :) If that is a fit for everyone.

John, and Brent, Miz and Eric:
The Spring Membership meeting ended up being fast paced which means there was no time for Brent and I to talk about our idea to train new sailors on racing.
Rick and the Board do have a great idea on race days to start newbies with the 4th start.
A whaler will be present to coach new racers.
Our idea is to supplement this by being present on the boat. This way we can respond to questions in the moment.
Could we all agree on sometime to meet at the club?
Please respond with dates you can make.
Brent, and I agree, that if we only do a few trainings this year, its a start.
We will go over Rick's questions and then decide next steps.

Hello Everyone:
Brent and I did not have time to discuss our idea tonight at the Spring Membership meeting.
However, he plans on letting me know tomorrow about us 5 having a group call.
If that does not work, we will make something else work.
I also mentioned to Rick Bernstein our plan to answer his questions.
So.. stay tuned and please check your email so we can get ourselves on the same page.

We can do a phone call.
Brent emailed me to say he will discuss our racing idea with me at tonight"s member meeting.
So.. I can send out an email to inform you, John and Miz ( he is part of the team) about what Brent says.
Then, us 4 could do a phone call tomorrow.
Miz works so we will need to arrange a time with him for tomorrow.
If he can ..
What do you think?
Yes?

John and I will be at the lake this Wednesday at 9am to work on the loaner boats. Would you be able to come out and help us? While we are there, we could talk about how to get this race training started and how to address Rick's concerns.

Hi Chris,
I appreciate your interest in a plan to have a Saturday training session on racing as a possible value added program to enhance our adult sailing program.
Questions:
  • Is the plan to promote Flying Scot sailing/racing or would it be open to any or all fleets/boats?  If it's open to everyone, then perhaps, other members of the club should be involved.  If it's just for Scots, I would advertise it as such, have advance registration, and use just our Scot club boats and/or member Scot boats.
  • I'm wondering if this plan is perceived as being in conflict, somehow, with the adult sailing program since, last I heard, a racing format is used for teaching at the clinic in June?
  • There should be a sufficient number of signups before committing a lot of resources for such an undertaking. I would be happy to help out if it's a Scot event and you get a certain number of interested participants (say 3-4 boats?).
  • What concerns have Rick expressed?  Since, he is in charge of racing (am I right about this?) I would think he should be involved unless it is a "dedicated" Scot promotion effort.
Your thoughts?
Bill V.
